Graphic Design Intern (18+)

PURPOSE: The Graphic Design Intern at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) will work alongside the Graphics Team—a subset of the Marketing Department—and the Creative Director to create compelling visuals for a variety of museum programs, events and online communications. Interns will be trained on formatting standards and other aesthetic guidelines to ensure faithful stewardship of the Frost Science brand in all projects. The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in graphic design or related field. 

This internship position is unpaid, but provides an exceptional opportunity to refine design skills. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in an academic program that will allow them to receive credit for completing this position. Duration of the position is based on the credit requirement.

SALARY: Unpaid, for academic credit.

SKILLS AND OPPORTUNITIES GAINED:

  • Collaborate with several marketing functions including public relations, social media, website development, advertising, special events and more.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist staff in various digital and print graphic design needs within the marketing department, i.e. layouts, ads, logos, event collateral, etc.
  • Photo research of visual assets for web and digital communications.
  • Assist with mock ups of signage and exhibition graphics.
  • Perform other assigned tasks. 

 QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Must be actively enrolled in a college/university and have a faculty advisor, or be enrolled in an internship program, to verify the hours and provide educational credit for the internship. 
  • Interest in science and Frost Science’s mission. 
  • Must have a genuine interest in graphic design, typography and visual communication. 
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects and working under strict deadlines. 
  • Reliable and punctual, with good attendance. 
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.  
  • Must be 18 years or older. 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:  

  • This work is primarily preformed in an office setting, sometimes in areas of low lighting.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Level 2 background clearance as defined by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
  • Drug screening as part of the Drug Free Workplace Program.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 8 hours a week.
